What is oral and maxillofacial surgery?
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a specialty of dentistry that requires up to six additional years of training after completing dental school. The specialty focuses on treating oral, facial, neck, and jaw diseases that require surgery, such as wisdom tooth extraction, replacing missing teeth with dental implants, correcting underdeveloped jaws, treating oral cancer and tumors, and treating deep infections and trauma in the face and neck.
